Viva Hesus Nazareno! Viva!
It was the chant of the thousands of devotees that echoed within the vicinity of Quiapo Church in Manila for the annual blessing and procession of the replica of the Black Nazarene.
Barefooted devotees from all walks of life mostly wearing a maroon shirt printed with the image of the Black Nazarene flocked to Quiapo, Manila bringing with them the image of Nazareno in various clothes and sizes on Tuesday, January 7, 2020.
The blessing and procession of the replica started at 2 p.m. led by Fr. Danichi Hui, Parochial Vicar of Quiapo Church.
The traditional “Pahalik” will begin on January 8, at the Quirino Grandstand.
At 12 midnight on January 9, Msgr. Hernando Coronel, Rector of Quiapo Church will lead the celebration of the Holy Eucharist with His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle as homilist.
The image of the Back Nazarene will leave Quirino Grandstand for Traslacion after the morning prayer at 5:30 a.m.
During the activities for the celebration of the Feast of Nazareno, Fr. Hui called on the devotees to make the occasion solemn.
Hui said.
For the safety of all the children and elderly who wish to join the procession, Fr. Hui reminded them to stay as much as possible in the prayer stations.
Hui said. (Jheng M. Prado / RCAM-AOC)
