A 5-day seminar attended by the Quiapo Church Responders was held at the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene on July 8-12, 2019 at the conference hall of Pope Benedict XVI Bldg. It was a program to match or align participants to identify the concept of disaster resilience and leadership in disaster risk reduction, the practice of preparedness, response, and recovery.
The Quiapo church Responders are group of volunteers tasked to perform security, safety and emergency preparedness and response activities during masses, routine religious activities and fiestas. They may also be deployed as during emergencies and disasters outside the church premises as requested by the Quiapo Church Disaster Preparedness and Response Ministry.
The organizations that participated in the event are Hijos – (ANPON, BASILIKA, BUKLURAN, CENTRAL, MBBN, NPJN), MBBN KABABAIHAN, and ANPON KABABAIHAN. The purpose of the seminar is to apply the qualities of a good leader, to develop skills and knowledge towards a real-life situation.
The training representatives who shared their perspective in the seminar are Course Director, Mr. Martin Aguda Jr. from International Association of Emergency Managers; Mr. Antonio Tolentino, Mr. Gladwin So, Mr. Darwin Noche and Ms. Arlene Evangelista from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office; SPINSP Gaudencio Magallanes from Bureau of Fire Station Sta. Ana; and representatives from Manila Police District PCAPT. Arnold Yangga, Explosive and Ordinance Division (EOD) Chief, PMSG Romulus Roland Rosales Ramilo, EOD member and EXPCOL Rex Arvin Malimban, MPD Force Commander. The Emergency Response Integration Center also shared their knowledge through Mr. Christopher Grajo.
